A slow sink, a toilet that won’t flush, a manhole filling up in the garden. When a drain blocks, you want it cleared properly, not just pushed further down the pipe. Prime Drainage Solutions unblocks drains across Poole and finds out what caused the blockage, so it’s less likely to come back.

Call 0330 043 2648 to talk to us about your blocked drain.

Blocked drain problems we clear in Poole

  • Kitchen sinks clogged with fat, grease and food waste
  • Toilets blocked by wipes, sanitary products or too much paper
  • Showers, baths and basins slowed by hair and soap
  • Outside gullies full of leaves, silt and grit
  • Manholes and inspection chambers backing up because the main drain is blocked
  • Soil stacks and shared drains in flats and converted houses

Whatever the problem, the aim is the same. Clear the blockage, get the water flowing and leave the drain in better shape than we found it.

How we unblock drains

The right method depends on what’s in the pipe and where it is. We choose the method once we’ve found the blockage.

Drain rodding

Flexible rods are pushed through the drain from the nearest manhole or access point. Rodding breaks up soft blockages such as paper and wipes, and works well on short runs.

High-pressure water jetting

A jetting hose sends water through the pipe at high pressure. It cuts through fat, grease, silt and scale that rods can’t shift, and it scours the pipe walls so the blockage doesn’t reform straight away.

Drain camera checks

If a drain has blocked before, we can feed a small waterproof camera down the pipe after clearing it. It shows whether roots, a cracked pipe or a sagging section is catching waste. For a full inspection, see our CCTV drain surveys.

What to expect when you call

  1. We ask which sinks, toilets or drains are affected and whether water is rising.
  2. We agree the cost with you.
  3. Our engineer opens the nearest manhole or access point and locates the blockage.
  4. We clear the drain and flush it through with clean water.
  5. We test every affected sink, toilet and gully to make sure it drains properly.
  6. We tell you what caused it and whether anything else needs attention.

Quick checks before you call

A few things worth doing while you wait for us:

  • Stop using water in the affected sinks, baths and toilets. Every flush adds to the backlog.
  • Ask your neighbours. If they have the same problem, the blockage may be in a shared drain or the public sewer.
  • Lift the manhole cover if you can do it safely. A full chamber means the blockage is further downstream. An empty one means it’s between your house and the manhole.
  • Skip the chemicals. Caustic products rarely clear a blocked drain and make the job hazardous for whoever clears it.

Is it your drain or Wessex Water’s?

In Poole, the public sewers are run by Wessex Water. You’re responsible for the drain that serves only your property, up to your boundary. Pipes shared with neighbours, and sections beyond your boundary, have mostly been Wessex Water’s responsibility since October 2011. They clear public sewer blockages without charge.

If the blockage is on your side, we’ll clear it. If it’s in the public sewer, we’ll tell you so you can report it to Wessex Water.

Poole’s drains and why they block

Poole’s homes range from Victorian and Edwardian terraces to post-war estates and modern flats. Older houses often still have clay pipes, where joints can crack or shift and catch waste. In leafier streets, tree roots find their way into those gaps.

Blocks of flats bring their own issues. Several homes often share one soil stack or drain, so one household’s wipes can block everyone’s toilets. If a pipe turns out to be damaged, our drain repairs in Poole page explains the options.

Areas of Poole we cover

We clear blocked drains throughout Poole, including Parkstone, Hamworthy, Broadstone, Canford Heath, Oakdale, Creekmoor, Branksome and Canford Cliffs. We also cover blocked drains in Bournemouth and offer drainage services across Dorset.
